Totara Fun Day

Today the senior school had a Fun Fair day! We had to get our own tickets and write our names on the back of them. We had six activities to complete. The first activity I did was science in room 12 with Dana and Sam. After that we went to the court and played outside games with Mr. Fisher. We had to lie on these skateboard type of things and Sam grazed her elbow. The next thing we did was making mice with Mrs. Dunkley. The photo down below is of the mice we tried to make. I finished my mouse but Sa and Dana 

Athletics Practice

On Athletics Practice we did a lot of different sports and I learnt a lot of new things. This photo is of me jumping as high as I could in Long Jump. Mrs. Todd told us to run up to the cone and spring off with on foot in front and one behind. She also told us to land straight with both feet and and NOT TO TOUCH THE GROUND WITH OUR BOTTOMS!!! Long Jump was my favourite sport.                                                                         
The next photo is of me practising high jump which I was terrible at. Mrs. Nelson told us to jump with either our right or left leg in front and the other one at the back. She also told us to do scissor legs and run slower when we are further away from the mat then from when we are closer to the mat. I was really bad at high jump and it was my least favourite sport. Although I still really enjoyed it.

The Kite and the Taniwha

Clay Moulding

On Thursday we went to room 12 to do clay moulding. I made many things like a cake, moustache, burger, braid and a cat. We didn't have any clay so we had to use Plasticine instead. I really loved it and it was awesome.

Breakout EDU

On the 31.7.18 Tortara had a STEAM Extravaganza which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths. A man from Taupo came and talked to our school about the boys and their coach stuck in the cave. He also talked about some other things.We walked out of the hall and into Room 12 to play breakout EDU. The team we were up against had 10 boys. We had 10 girls but near the end 2 girls had to leave because of guitar! Lea and Imogen were the makers of the game. Breakout EDU was were two teams had to break open a box in a limited amount of time. To open the box we first had to find all sorts of clues which would lead to the keys to the lock on the box. My team was the first team to find the keys to the box. When we finally opened the box we ended up finding another box inside the box we had just opened. We had to open the box with a hole lot of padlocks. The boys beat us by 11 minutes. If we hadn't got help from Lea and Imogen we wouldn't of been able to open the box in time!

Hei Tiki

On Tuesday 26th of June My class and I went to The Tea room in the government gardens. We went to the Hei Tiki activity and learnt all about the Hei Tiki. We made our own Tiki. We made it out of felt, craft glue and felt pens. My tiki was yellow with blue button eyes. He also had a red  mouth, white tongue and red arms. I named him Mr Potato head because he really looked like a potato. We also did another thing where we looked at different pieces of art with Tiki in them. My finished product is the middle photo. Also we looked at photo's and told each other our opinions about which photo's we think were okay to use the Tiki in. I had a go and did well. Our teachers were Emma and Kristina!                                                                                 

!The Story Of My Life!

This game was made by my friends Samantha, Caitlyn and I. We adapted the Game Of Life to The Story Of My Life. We Adapted it because we made proper places to go in and made number cards instead of spinners! We used an empty milk box and folded it out to make a board and used the sides to make all the cards and people. Keep in mind that I didn't get a very good photo it looks way better in real life! 

Sacred Heart Of Jesus

Today we had to create a piece of art in our RE book to represent the Sacred Heart Of Jesus using these symbols. Jesus's Sacred Heart represents the love he has for us, The flames represent Jesus's burning love for us, The Cross represents the Crucifixion, the ultimate sacrifice, The crown of thorns represent Jesus's suffering and agony.

A few days ago my whole class made jelly. We were making rainbow jelly. We had to measure in millilitres how much red jelly we wanted first my buddy was Caoimhe. We used water to measure how much jelly we wanted all together. We decided to use 40mls of red jelly and 200mls of jelly overall. We had to read the scales and find the marks of how much jelly we wanted and pour it into our cups. We had to go at knee height to do so. The next day we put in 40mls of yellow jelly and once again we had to find the 40mls mark and pour it into our cup. We kept doing that process. So far we have put red, yellow, green and orange jelly in our cup so far. 

The Elixer of Love

We watched an Opera act called the Elixer of Love. It was awesome. My favourite character was called Nemo but that was just his nick name his stage name was Nemorino he is was the man in the red jacket and jeans.The girls name was Adina and we called the man with the black shorts Scooter Man but his real stage name was Dulcamara. The priest was a teacher at our school her name was Mrs. Wallbank. Belcore  was the man in the blue hat and at the end of the show I wanted to slap him in the face because he was mean to Nemo. My favourite part of the show was when Dulcamara gave Nemorino a potion to make Adina fall in love with him because it was funny to see Belcores face when Adina canceled their wedding.

Jesus's Resurrection

Jesus died on the cross he was put in a tomb and left there to rest. Three days after he died he rose from the died. Mary took two of her friends with her to visit Jesus's tomb. But when they got there they could not find him anywhere. When they were about to call Simon over an Angel appeared to the three woman and said "why are you looking for Jesus he has risen from the  died". So they called Simon over he didn't see Jesus anywhere either but he saw some of the clothes that he rested in. After that the three soldiers came and said that someone had taken Jesus's body to make people think that he had resurrected. When the three soldiers left Jesus appeared in front of the tomb. "I have rose from the died" said Jesus " I am here now" 

Our class had to make a recreation of Jesus's tomb. My friend Caitlyn and I made this tomb.

Swimming sports

On Tuesday our school held a swimming sports event. I entered all of the races that were held. This photo is of me and my friends winning a place in backstroke 50 meter length. Emma is the one in the middle, Jamie is the one on the left and I'm the one on the right. I was really proud of myself because I was aiming for either 3rd, second to last or 2nd, I was also proud because I feel that backstroke is not really one of my strong points in swimming. I had an awesome time in this race and  I really enjoyed it.

In this photo I am getting prepared for freestyle width. This time I actually felt more pressure than the 50 meter races, even though it was shorter and less stressful for most people it was stressful for me because if you didn't make it back to the side of the pool before the buzzer went you wouldn't score a point for your house. My house is Pompalier. I liked this race but my favourite was one of the fun games called noodle soup. In freestyle 50 meters length I almost ran out of breath and my arms got really tired but I still enjoyed it. In conclusion I really liked swimming sports and I have emproved in my swimming a lot from it improved from it.

My Art Canvas

         MY ART CANVAS

 

Soon it  will be children's day in the Redwoods. Our class room 3 have made art canvases to hang on trees all over the Redwoods. First our teacher Mrs.  Dunkley gave us our pieces of fabric and we choose the colour that we wanted to dye our sheet of fabric with. I choose blue because I thought it would look pretty. By the time we had finished dyeing our fabric it looked really cool because the little dots looked like little crosses because the dye soaked into the fabric. Next we practiced printing leaves onto paper because the next day we were going to print them onto our real sheets of fabric. We put paint onto all sorts of leaves and then they turned out really well. When we had fully finished my art canvas turned out like the bottom photo on this post.

Ash Wednesday

When my Ashes got placed on my forehead I felt blessed and I immediately remembered my promise. I felt like I had been forgiven for the sins I had made since last Ash Wednesday. I think the ashes are placed on your forehead in the shape of the cross to make you remember your promise and to keep it for 40 days or as long as you can as they are burnt from your promises and last years palm leaves.

All About Me Bag

The item in the top left corner is the third silver gymnastics medal that I have won so far.
The reason I got the medal was for tumbling. The item in the top right corner is a photo taken by my Uncle. The photo is of my cousin and I. At the time I was 2 and Minka my cousin was 4. I am the one in the purple jumper. In the bottom left corner is a drawing of a green stone from Maori culture. And last in the bottom right corner my favourite book the witches.
